I am delighted to announce that Silly Phillie® Baby Gifts received a prestigious Brooklyn-Made Certification. Managed by the Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce, Brooklyn-Made is a certification program for locally-made goods. The certification is a market-driven, geographically-focused certification assessing and validating products manufactured in Brooklyn, NY.

Silly Phillie® was approved on August 26th along with a number of other fine Brooklyn based manufacturers. The announcement is posted on the homepage of the Brooklyn-Made website. This recognition reinforces our strategy of making better quality products in the USA. The fact that we’re able to do so in my home town is the icing on the cake for me personally.

I am often asked for an opinion on what makes an ultimate baby gift. I have designed many iconic baby gifts over the last 30 years as owner of Silly Phillie®. But I find it impossible to point to any one of those or any others as the “ultimate baby gift”. All baby gifts are special in one way or another. The more money spent on a gift the more impressive the gift becomes as a general rule. I recently created a customized baby gift for a customer who wanted to spend $300. Silly Phillie® is on a roll these days, in more ways than one.

For starters, the above photo shows yours truly sitting on rolls of fabric in Silly Phillie’s Brooklyn manufacturing facility. The photo was taken as part of an upcoming feature being done on my company by WE NYC.

WE NYC is a first-of-its-kind effort in a major American city to address the entrepreneurship gender gap and empower women business-owners to reach their full economic potential. I am honored to be part of this exciting initiative. I am also anxious to see the profile on Silly Phillie®.

In looking through the many photos taken by the talented photographer, Nancy Siesel, I particularly love this one of me sitting on rolls of fabric. In my opinion it best captures the essence of Silly Phillie’s “baby gifts made to order in Brooklyn” business model. Without fabric to cut, sew and embroider into quality layette items, we would not have the quality ingredients to make our many unique baby gifts.

New Gender Reveal Layette Cake from Silly Phillie

Many parents today are choosing to host a Gender Reveal Party to announce and in some cases discover the sex of their baby among family and friends.

There are lots of creative ideas on how to orchestrate a climactic end to a gender reveal party. That’s the moment of truth when baby’s sex is revealed and everyone gets a “sweet surprise”

The Internet is full of suggestions on how to reveal baby’s gender at a party. Some are simple others more elaborate. Doesn’t it amaze you how creative people get when it comes to a newborn baby?

Some of my favorite gender reveal ideas include: 1) a giant box filled with either pink or blue balloons-very dramatic; 2) a sealed envelope with the baby’s gender written on a card by the OB or Ultrasound Technician; and 3) colored cupcakes. This can be done by adding pink or blue food coloring to a white cake mix, then covering it with enough frosting so that no cake shows until biting into it. Yummy!

Nothing is more perfect than a newborn baby.

I am reminded of this every day when I see our beautiful baby gifts being made and sent to new parents, each accompanied by the most heartfelt messages of congratulations from family and friends. It never ceases to amaze me how much joy a single newborn baby brings into the world.

Kids Bathrobe fit for Prince George!

Prince George of the British Royal Family was photographed recently wearing an adorable Kids Bathrobe while greeting President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama on their visit to London. The photograph went viral and the press sized upon the event to write articles about the virtues of the bathrobe worn by Prince George. Unique Baby Gifts Make a Lasting Impression

The other day a woman named Angelique called to order a baby gift. The gift was for an important business associate at a large pharmaceutical company.

Angelique emphasized that she wanted a unique baby gift that would make a big impression. She specified that It had to be a Welcome Wagon™ baby gift and it had to also include a Silly Phillie® bathrobe. More about the bathrobe later.

After several minutes reviewing options together Angelique decided to order a Personalized Deluxe Welcome Wagon Gift for Baby Boy . We agreed to substitute a bathrobe for the normally included bath bag and I offered to personalized the bathrobe at no additional cost.

Creating customized baby gifts is a much lesser known fact about our company. The reason for that is probably due to: 1) people assume we don’t offer this service because so few other companies do; or 2) many people think the process might be a hassle and possibly too expensive.
